Katadyn Pocket Water Filter is my first water filter. I have no used it yet. At first look it appears to be heavy duty. It also is not very complex (Pro). Probably a little on the heavy side. I did pump some tap water through it and the amout of water you can pump in a minute is reasonable. I would purchase Katadyn Pocket Water Filter again.

Katadyn Pocket Water Filter Fantastic filter! Does everything they said it would. One small disappointment though! The first thing I noticed when I took everything out of the box was the cheap carrying bag that came with it. To make it worse, the bag had about a six inch tear alongside the zipper! I decided to just duct tape it and keep it! It instantly gave it that "rough and tough used" look! Anything as awesome as this filter should come with a ballistic carry bag!!

I did a lot of research on water filters prior to making the decision to purchase this Katadyn Pocket Water Filter. I am very happy that I choose the Katadyn Pocket Water Filter. I have used it several times already on camp outs and hikes and it has performed perfectly. The two main reasons I chose this unit over the other filters were for durability and the cost per gallon to filter the water. When looking at the filter replacement cost, the cost per gallon with the pocket is only about 1.5 cents ($200/13,000 gal.), compared to the hiker and hiker Pro which is 25 cents ($50/200 gal.).

The initial cost is much more but over the life of the Katadyn Pocket Water Filter product, there is no question which product will last. The Katadyn Pocket Water Filter pump is very easy to use and pumps quicker then I expected. I also purchased the Katadyn Carbon Replacement Cartridge and it has helped, but does not make a huge difference in how the water tastes. I did read some reviews about the carbon replacement cartridge and how it is very messy and comes apart easily. When I received the cartridge, it took me a few minutes but then I realized that once the replacement cartridge is pushed together as far as possible, you then screw the top and bottom together and it holds great. Also, make sure to not overfill the cartridge with the carbon, that is when it becomes messy. I have recommended both of these products to family and friends, and some family members have already purchased the Katadyn Pocket Water Filter.
