I bought Katadyn Pocket Microfilter for a trip to Kalalau beach on Kauai. Yes, the Katadyn Pocket Microfilter is heavier than standard filters. Although, I was less concerned with weight but the dependability of construction and materials to deliver filtered water while hiking, even after years of use. I haven't had the time to test it out yet but the product is really well built. You would have to try very hard to break this Katadyn Pocket Microfilter Endurance Series. Although it is very durable and strong don't let that be a reason to be careless. Keep in mind that the filtration element inside is sensitive and can break within the filter if the drop was strong enough. Also please note that this Katadyn Pocket Microfilter does not remove viruses. However, viruses in water are not too common in North America. Remember to always have a backup and carry purification tablets as a last resort.
